Campbell one of 50 Intriguing Canadians

In 2012, the Canadian National Archives will create an exhibit of "50 Intriguing Canadians" and word is that the poster will feature the famous Barbara Woodley photograph of Ms. Campbell.  Fans will recall that Ms. Campbell was also in another top 50 list a few years ago that the National Geographic Almanac of World History published in 2004.

Greenbuild NEXT 2011

"TORONTO, Sept. 28, 2011 /CNW/ -- The U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) annual conference and expo is making its way to Toronto next week to celebrate "what's next" in green building. Greenbuild is the world's largest green building conference and expo and is expected to make an economic impact of $26 million CAD, bringing 25,000 delegates from over 115 countries to the event. A release from the Metro Toronto Convention Centre earlier this week also stated that Greenbuild will generate a positive impact on the local economy of over $58 million from delegate spending."

The Opening Celebration will feature Former Prime Minister Kim Campbell along with Thomas Friedman, Cokie Roberts and Dr. Paul Farmer.

Club de Madrid Kyrgyzstan Mission

"With the objective of supporting peaceful and just transitional political processes in the run up to the October 30th Presidential elections, Club de Madrid Member Kim Campbell, Former Prime Minister of Canada, promoted the holding of credible elections, participatory democracy, respect for human rights culture, and the strengthening of governance institutions for further consolidation of democracy in the Kyrgyz Republic during this third Club of Madrid mission to Kyrgyzstan."

Club de Madrid Makes Recommendations to G20

September 9, 2011

The G20 is comprised of 19 countries and the European Union, which collectively represent over 85% of the world’s economy and two thirds of the world’s population. The Club of Madrid, with the support of the French Presidency of the G20 and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, convened a high level meeting in Paris with the objective of evaluating and debating the most pressing and urgent economic affairs currently gripping the world today. The product of these efforts was a set of recommendations to the G20 that were presented to French President Sarkozy at a working luncheon at the Élysée Palace. 

In attendance were Club of Madrid Members: Wim Kok (ex prime Minister of Holland and President of the Club of Madrid), Kim Campbell (ex Prime Minister of Canada), Ricardo Lagos (ex President of Chile) and Hong Koo Lee (ex Prime Minister of Korea).  The Paris meeting was also attended by representatives of the French Presidency of the G20 and other key figures, José Antonio Ocampo, former United Nations Adjunct Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, Gabriela Ramos, Chief of Staff and Sherpa to the G20 for the OECD, and Mario Pezzini, Director for the Centre for Development at the OECD.

Campbell Announces Recommendations on Democracy Assistance

June 30, 2011

Former Prime Minister Campbell, chair of the World Movement for Democracy, presented recommendations regarding Democracy Assistance at a session of the Parliamentary Forum for Democracy in Vilnius, Lithuania. 

The recommendations were based on finding from a series of country case studies and an online survey to help gauge the views of democracy assistance practitioners and recipients.  All of the aforementioned was part of the World Movement for Democracy Democracy Assistance Project.

Campbell headed to Kuwait

Campbell to be honored by Trent University

March 9, 2011

 

On behalf of Senate, Dr. Steven E. Franklin, the president of Trent University announced today that Former Canadian Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Kim Campbell, and Mr. Craig Kielburger, founder of Free The Children among those to be honoured at June convocation ceremonies.

“The University Senate was unanimous in its approval of these distinguished individuals as Trent University's honorary degree recipients for 2011,” said Dr. Steven E. Franklin, president and vice-chancellor at Trent. “All distinguished Canadians who have contributed significantly to our society and our world, each will represent a unique and powerful perspective to our graduates at Trent’s 44th convocation ceremonies.”

Campbell will be honored in the Morning Ceremony on Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Radio Free Europe's Voices of Solidarity

January 3, 2011

Radio Free Europe's Belarus Service launched a project meant to call attention to the hundreds of activists and opposition supporters jailed in the wake of the country's controversial elections on December 19, 2010. Former Prime Minister Campbell was asked, and agreed, to be one of the 74 participant who read names of political prisoners that were broadcast on New Year's Eve/Day.

The "Voices Of Solidarity" project brought together prominent international and Belarusian politicians and artists to read the names of opposition supporters detained after the vote.
