A Shared is an Enabling Society

February 7, 2013

New York, USA. Frmr PM Campbell was featured in an event focused on Shared Societies as part of the Club de Madrid's project of the same name. The panel was convened in collaboration with the Division for Social Policy and Development (UNDESA), as a side-event to the 2013 UN Commission for Social Development. The session was officially titled, "A Shared is an Enabling Society: Creating the Conditions for Political and Economic Empowerment" and it highlighted the importance and the practical implications of creating the conditions within society which enable people to be active citizens and play a full part in its development.

This event was inspired by the idea that, if people are able to engage for fully in meeting the challenges that they and their society and country face, they are able to contribute to building a society which meetings their needs and those of teh wider community. And, if people are denied those opportunities or are unable to take hold fo them, not only will the development of the society and the state stall and individuals will suffer, but history shows that it often leads to tension and unrest.
